Government Declares June 6 as Public Holiday to Mark Eid-ul-Adha

The Ministry of Interior has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, as a statutory public holiday nationwide in observance of Eid-ul-Adha.

In an official statement issued on Thursday, May 29, and signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak, the ministry urged all citizens and residents to recognize the day as a public holiday throughout the country.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is among the most significant religious observances in the Islamic calendar. The festival honors the steadfast faith of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who demonstrated his willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to God’s command.

The celebration coincides with the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, one of the five pillars of Islam. It falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Commonly referred to as the “Greater Eid,” Eid-ul-Adha is marked by special congregational prayers, the ritual sacrifice of animals, and acts of charity. Muslims worldwide commemorate the occasion by gathering with family and friends and extending support to those in need.
