Malacañang has officially designated June 6 and June 12, 2025, as regular holidays in observance of Eidul Adha and Independence Day, respectively.
Eidul Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is a significant Muslim holiday commemorating the prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. The celebration falls on the 10th day of Zhul Hiija, the 12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
In line with this, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos recommended declaring June 6, 2025, Friday, a national holiday following the 1446 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar. This recommendation was formalized in Proclamation No. 727, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
June 12, observed annually, marks the Philippines’ Independence Day, commemorating the country’s declaration of independence from Spanish colonial rule on June 12, 1898. This year, Independence Day falls on a Thursday.
The declaration of these holidays aims to honor the nation’s cultural and historical heritage and to provide Filipinos with an opportunity to commemorate these significant events.
