by Bella

As the June bank holiday weekend approaches, County Louth offers a diverse range of activities to keep families entertained despite uncertain weather forecasts. From historical reenactments to scenic ferry rides, here are nine things to enjoy in Louth over the extended break.

1. Step Back in Time with Living History at Oldbridge House, Drogheda

The Battle of the Boyne Visitors Centre in Oldbridge will host a special living history programme on June 1 and 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Visitors can experience reenactments of 17th-century European armies featuring musketeers, artillery gunners, spikemen, halberdiers, and more.

Costumed historian Tóla Collier will lead battlefield walks at 2 p.m. on both Sunday and Monday, exploring the tactics, strategy, and key figures involved. The walks begin at the front of Oldbridge House.

Facilities include car parking, a coffee shop, and restrooms. The site is family-friendly and welcomes dogs, except in the walled garden.

2. Dinosaurs Invade Skypark, Carlingford

Carlingford’s Skypark is set for a prehistoric takeover with How to Train Your Dinosaur, running from May 31 to June 2. The event features four daily interactive shows and opportunities to meet Bruno the T-Rex and baby dinosaurs.

Admission is included with Skypark passes, which also grant access to Ireland’s Ancient East maze and other attractions.

3. Alpaca Trekking at Long Acre Alpacas, Ardee

For a unique outdoor experience, visitors can enjoy alpaca trekking at Long Acre Alpacas in Glack, Ardee. The family-run business offers 40 to 60-minute countryside walks accompanied by gentle alpacas, with chances for photos and feeding sessions afterward.

Bookings and further information are available at longacrealpacas website.

4. Car Treasure Hunt and Lipsync Battle, Dundalk

On Sunday, June 1 at 3 p.m., a car treasure hunt departs from the Fairways Hotel, Dundalk. This event offers an enjoyable drive around Dundalk’s scenic routes while participants search for clues. The event runs alongside the Lipsync Battle Dundalk 2025.

5. Drogheda Walking Tour
