Remaining U.S. Holidays in 2025

by Bella

As the summer season approaches, many Americans are looking ahead to upcoming public holidays for a much-needed break from work and school. With Memorial Day just around the corner, here’s a look at the remaining public holidays in the United States for the rest of 2025.

Memorial Day Marks the Next National Holiday

The next public holiday on the U.S. calendar is Memorial Day, observed on Monday, May 26 this year. The day serves as a solemn tribute to military personnel who lost their lives in service to the country and also marks the unofficial start of summer for many Americans.

Seven Federal Holidays Still to Come in 2025

Following Memorial Day, seven national public holidays remain in 2025:

  • Juneteenth National Independence Day – Wednesday, June 19
Commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, marking the day in 1865 when enslaved individuals in Texas were informed of their freedom.

  • Independence Day – Friday, July 4
Celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Falling on a Friday this year, the holiday will offer Americans a long weekend.

  • Labor Day – Monday, September 1
Recognizes the contributions of American workers and traditionally signals the end of summer.

  • Veterans Day – Tuesday, November 11
Honors all U.S. military veterans and coincides with Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I.

  • Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 27
A national day of gratitude observed with family gatherings, meals, and the traditional turkey dinner.

  • Christmas Day – Thursday, December 25
The final public holiday of the year, Christmas is celebrated by millions across the country with religious observance, gift-giving, and festive traditions.

Looking Back and Ahead

So far in 2025, Americans have observed New Year’s Day (January 1), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 20), and Washington’s Birthday (February 17). Following Christmas, the next official public holiday will be New Year’s Day 2026, on Thursday, January 1.

Whether you’re planning a vacation, a family gathering, or simply looking forward to a day off, the remaining holidays of 2025 offer plenty of opportunities to relax and recharge.
