The Government of Sindh has officially announced a public holiday on May 28 to mark Youm-e-Takbeer, the historic day when Pakistan successfully conducted nuclear tests in the Chaghai hills in 1998.
A notification issued by the provincial administration confirmed the closure of all government and private institutions on this day. Additionally, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) will remain closed in observance of the occasion.
May 28 is a gazetted public holiday nationwide, a status confirmed by the Cabinet Division in a directive issued last year.
On this date in 1998, Pakistan became the seventh country in the world—and the first in the Islamic world—to develop and demonstrate nuclear weapons capability.
In related news, Pakistan recently observed Youm-e-Tashakur on May 16, a day dedicated to honoring the armed forces’ bravery and celebrating the historic victory of Marka-e-Haq. The day was marked by nationwide ceremonies reflecting the country’s resilience and unity.
