Bank Holidays Announced for May 26 to June 1

Banks in select Indian cities will remain closed for two days during the week of May 26 to June 1, in observance of regional holidays marking the birth anniversaries of Kazi Nazrul Islam and Maharana Pratap. Additionally, all banks across the country will remain shut on Sunday, June 1, in accordance with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) weekly schedule.

Regional Closures: May 26 and May 29

According to the RBI’s official holiday calendar, banks in Agartala will remain closed on Monday, May 26, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, the revered Bengali poet and freedom fighter known as the “Rebel Poet” for his revolutionary writings and contribution to India’s independence movement.

In addition, several regions will observe a bank holiday on Thursday, May 29, for Maharana Pratap Jayanti, honoring the legendary Rajput king and warrior of Mewar.

National Weekly Closure: June 1

All banking institutions across India will be closed on Sunday, June 1, as per the regular weekly schedule. Banks remain closed on Sundays and on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.

Saturday Operations: May 31

Banks will be open on Saturday, May 31, as it falls on the fifth Saturday of the month. The RBI stipulates that bank branches only close on the second and fourth Saturdays.

Online Services Unaffected

Despite branch closures, customers will continue to have access to online banking services across all regions. Digital platforms will remain functional, enabling fund transfers via NEFT and RTGS, as well as requests for demand drafts, chequebooks, and other transactional services. Card-based services for debit, credit, and ATM transactions will also remain operational and secure during the holidays.
