President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared June 23 a special non-working holiday in Batac City, Ilocos Norte, in celebration of the city’s 18th charter anniversary.
The declaration was made through Proclamation No. 917, signed by the President to allow residents of Batac—his late father’s hometown—ample opportunity to take part in the commemorative activities.
“It is fitting and proper that the people be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” Marcos stated in the proclamation.
Batac City, considered a stronghold of the Marcos family in the Ilocos Region, attained cityhood in 2007. However, its status was briefly revoked following Supreme Court decisions in 2008 and 2010 before it was later reinstated.
In a separate proclamation, Proclamation No. 918, the President also declared August 14 a special non-working day in Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte, marking the municipality’s 66th founding anniversary.
