Drivers across Washington should prepare for significant traffic delays over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, with congestion expected on major routes including Interstate 90, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
In anticipation of the holiday rush, WSDOT has released detailed travel charts designed to help motorists plan their trips more efficiently and avoid peak congestion periods.
“We urge everyone to plan ahead, travel early or late in the day when possible, and be patient,” WSDOT said in a statement Monday. “Our crews will be working throughout the weekend to ensure roads are safe, but traffic volumes will be high.”
The agency’s Memorial Day weekend travel forecasts highlight several key routes expected to experience heavy congestion:
-
Interstate 5: Lacey to Tacoma
-
Interstate 90: North Bend to Cle Elum
-
U.S. Route 2: Between Stevens Pass and Skykomish
-
Interstate 5: Near the U.S.–Canada border
WSDOT recommends travelers consult the full set of travel charts available on their official website to make informed decisions and reduce travel-related stress.
Memorial Day, observed on May 27 this year, is traditionally one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, as families head out for road trips and other holiday events.
