No School Holiday in Tamil Nadu on Friday: Fact-Check Clears Rumor

by Bella

The Tamil Nadu government’s Fact-Check Unit has dismissed circulating rumors claiming that all schools, colleges, and government offices in the state will be closed on Friday, June 6, 2025.

The misinformation, widely shared on social media, falsely attributed the closure to a national public holiday declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the Tamil Nadu Fact-Check Unit, the viral message stating, “Prime Minister Modi has declared a national public holiday on Friday (06.06.2025), so all schools, government offices, and banks will not function,” was fabricated using artificial intelligence and lacks any official basis. In response, the Fact-Check Unit clarified that no such announcement has been made by the Tamil Nadu government.

The Tamil Nadu School Education Department further confirmed that all schools will remain open on Friday, June 6, 2025. The state has declared a public holiday on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in observance of Bakrid (Eid al-Adha), which is recognized as a public holiday for government employees. However, this holiday does not extend to schools, colleges, or banks.

While some neighboring states, including Kerala and Telangana, have declared a holiday on June 6 in connection with Eid al-Adha, Tamil Nadu has scheduled its public holiday for June 7. The public is advised to disregard the false information circulating online and adhere to the official government announcements.

For accurate updates, individuals are encouraged to refer to official government sources and the Tamil Nadu Fact-Check Unit’s verified communications.
