The annual Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi commenced on June 17 at the revered Sufi saint’s shrine located in Clifton, Karachi. Marking the 1295th Urs, the spiritual event will continue until June 19, 2025. In observance of the occasion, the Karachi government has declared a public holiday for June 19, which corresponds to 22 Zilhajj 1446 AH. Consequently, all non-essential offices of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will remain closed on that day.
The Urs was officially inaugurated with the ceremonial laying of a chadar by the acting Governor of Sindh, followed by Fateha (prayers) and other religious rites. Thousands of devotees from across Pakistan have gathered at the shrine to participate in the three-day commemoration.
The Sindh Auqaf Department has made extensive arrangements to ensure cleanliness at the shrine, security measures, medical assistance, and the distribution of langar (free meals) to attendees. The event’s program includes evening sessions featuring Qawwali performances, Mehfil-e-Sama (spiritual music gatherings), and Na’at recitations.
Authorities are anticipating large crowds and have coordinated with traffic and crowd management teams to facilitate smooth movement around the shrine. Devotees are urged to adhere to public guidelines and utilize designated areas for prayers and food distribution.
Access to the shrine will remain open throughout the Urs, with public transportation routes closely monitored to manage peak-hour congestion and maintain orderly flow.
