Pope Leo XIV will continue the longstanding tradition of spending part of his summer holidays at the papal residence in Castel Gandolfo, the picturesque hilltop town near Rome.
According to an official statement from the Prefecture of the Papal Household released on Tuesday, the Pope will divide his stay into two separate periods: half of July and a weekend in mid-August, coinciding with the Feast of the Assumption on August 15.
July Schedule
On Sunday afternoon, July 6, Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to travel to the Pontifical Villas of Castel Gandolfo to begin his period of rest.
The following Sunday, July 13, the Pope will celebrate Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the Pontifical Parish of Saint Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo. At noon, he will lead the Angelus prayer in Liberty Square, outside the Apostolic Palace.
On Sunday, July 20, the Holy Father will celebrate Mass at 9:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Albano. At noon, he will once again pray the Angelus in Liberty Square.
Later that day, Pope Leo XIV will return to the Vatican, where he will remain until his August visit.
Notably, during July, all private audiences will be suspended, as will the Wednesday General Audiences on July 2, 9, 16, and 23. The weekly General Audiences will resume on July 30.
The Jubilee of Youth event is scheduled to take place from July 28 through August 3.
August Schedule
Pope Leo XIV will return to Castel Gandolfo on Friday, August 15, to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. At 10:00 a.m., he will celebrate Mass at the Pontifical Parish and then lead the Angelus prayer at noon in Liberty Square.
He will also recite the Angelus prayer in Liberty Square at noon on Sunday, August 17.
That afternoon, the Pope is expected to depart Castel Gandolfo and return to the Vatican.
