The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) has announced an increased police presence across the island this holiday weekend to maintain public safety during Bermuda Day celebrations.
High-visibility patrols will be conducted on land and at sea as officers work alongside the Bermuda Reserve Police to foster a secure and peaceful environment throughout the festivities.
Detective Superintendent Dennis Astwood emphasized the importance of community cooperation, stating, “The Bermuda Police Service, working with the Bermuda Reserve Police, are committed to ensuring a peaceful and safe environment for all during this year’s Bermuda Day holiday festivities—from Friday’s morning races in St George’s and the afternoon parade in Hamilton through the weekend.”
The BPS will carry out roadside sobriety checkpoints and implement stop-and-search operations at various locations to encourage responsible behavior and deter violence and antisocial conduct.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly by calling 211 or 911.
In addition, designated no-parking zones will be clearly marked, and specific road closure times will be published in the Official Gazette. During parade road closures in Hamilton, vehicle movement will be restricted until the event concludes.
The police have called on the public to comply with traffic regulations to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants and spectators.
For the Bermuda Day Half-Marathon Derby, roads along the race routes will close starting at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow. Motorists traveling in the East End, particularly those with morning flights from LF Wade International Airport, are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays.
