The Odisha government has officially revised the date for the Savitri Amavasya holiday, advancing it from May 27 to May 26, 2025, following confirmation from prominent religious authorities.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the change on Thursday after consultations with the Mukti Mandap of Puri and other religious almanac experts indicated that the festival would be observed on May 26 this year.
Savitri Amavasya is an important cultural and religious occasion in Odisha, particularly for married women who perform traditional rituals praying for the long life and well-being of their husbands.
The initial government calendar had marked May 27 as the holiday. However, following the advisory from religious institutions, the administration acted swiftly to correct the date in order to maintain religious accuracy and public convenience.
The revised holiday notification has been issued to all government departments and institutions.
