DWP and State Pension Payments Affected by Bank Holiday

by Bella

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has yet to confirm specific changes to payment dates for benefits and State Pension recipients due on Monday, May 26, the upcoming Spring Bank Holiday. However, it is anticipated that payments scheduled for this date will be affected.

The Spring Bank Holiday, observed nationwide on May 26, means that many payment services—including the DWP and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)—must adjust their payment schedules to ensure that recipients receive their benefits in a timely manner. As a result, the DWP is expected to bring forward scheduled payments to Friday, May 23, for those who usually receive them on the holiday.

The change will impact several benefit payments, including the State Pension, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Universal Credit, Attendance Allowance, and others. These benefits typically require access to government offices, phone lines, and online services, which are not available during public holidays.

Below is a list of payments from the DWP, HMRC, and Social Security Scotland that could be affected by the Spring Bank Holiday:

  • State Pension

  • Attendance Allowance

  • Employment Support Allowance (ESA)

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

  • Universal Credit

  • Income Support

  • Pension Credit

  • Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)

  • Carer’s Allowance

  • Guardian’s Allowance

  • Child Benefit

HMRC has already announced similar changes for its scheduled payments, confirming that those due on May 26 will be processed earlier, on Friday, May 23.

The DWP has not yet officially confirmed all changes, but it is expected that most benefit payments due on May 26 will be issued early to avoid delays.

For those whose payment dates do not coincide with the bank holiday, the usual payment schedule will remain in place. Recipients are encouraged to monitor any updates from the DWP for further clarification on individual payment schedules.

As the holiday approaches, those affected by these changes are advised to check their payment dates to ensure they receive their benefits without disruption.
