Kuwait Declares Public Sector Holiday for Islamic New Year

by Bella

Kuwait’s government has announced a one-day public holiday for all ministries, government agencies, and public institutions on Thursday, June 26, in observance of the Islamic New Year, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

This announcement aligns with the country’s recognition of the Hijri New Year, which marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar. Normal working hours for the public sector will resume on Sunday, June 29.

The Islamic New Year, also known as the Hijri New Year, commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s migration (Hijrah) from Mecca to Medina, a significant event that marks the start of the Islamic calendar.

The day is traditionally observed with reflection, prayers, and family gatherings.
