The RAC is predicting significant traffic congestion this weekend, with over 21 million leisure trips expected to be made by car, as schools across England begin their Easter holidays.
The busiest days are expected to be Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, as most schools finish for the break. An estimated 3.4 million journeys are expected on both days, marking a sharp increase compared to the 2.7 million journeys anticipated for Thursday, April 3, and Sunday, April 6. On Monday, April 7, around 2.4 million trips are projected.
An additional 6.8 million journeys will be spread out over the weekend, as drivers choose varying times to travel.
Alice Simpson, spokesperson for the RAC, warned, “With 21 million trips expected this weekend, it’s highly likely that roads leading to popular holiday destinations will experience heavy traffic.”
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel as delays are expected to increase throughout the holiday period.
