UAE’s Next Public Holiday Expected in June: Islamic New Year

by Bella

Following the recent Eid Al Adha weekend, UAE residents can anticipate several upcoming public holidays before the end of 2025.

The Eid Al Adha holiday, observed from Thursday, June 5 to Sunday, June 8, provided a four-day weekend for employees, with regular work resuming on Monday, June 9.

The next public holiday is projected to be the Islamic (Hijri) New Year, which marks the beginning of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Based on current astronomical calculations, this holiday is expected to fall on Thursday, June 26. However, if the month of Dhu Al Hijja completes 30 days, the holiday could be observed on Friday, June 27 instead.

This day will usher in the Islamic year 1447 and is generally observed as a quiet day of reflection, with no formal religious rituals.

Following the Islamic New Year, the UAE will observe the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday, anticipated on Thursday, September 4.

The year’s final public holidays include Commemoration Day, expected to be observed on Monday, December 1, followed by National Day celebrations on Tuesday, December 2, and Wednesday, December 3.

Residents are advised to stay informed as official dates may be confirmed closer to the events based on moon sightings and announcements by UAE authorities.
