Education departments in three provinces of Pakistan—Balochistan, Punjab, and Sindh—have announced the summer vacation schedule for 2025, offering students and teachers a much-needed respite as temperatures continue to soar.
The annual break, which typically allows students to rest, travel, and engage in recreational or educational activities, comes at a time when much of the country is experiencing extreme heat. Many families take advantage of the holidays to visit cooler regions such as Murree, Swat, and Hunza. Major cities including Lahore and Karachi often host cultural festivals, food fairs, and other summer events.
Balochistan
In Balochistan, summer vacations began on May 17 in the province’s hotter areas. The break will continue until July 31, with schools scheduled to reopen on Friday, August 1.
Punjab
The Punjab government has confirmed that schools across the province will begin summer holidays on Sunday, June 1, lasting until Saturday, August 9.
The decision comes in response to increasing temperatures and ongoing climate challenges. Authorities have stated that if the heat intensifies further, the vacation period may be advanced by a week as a precautionary measure to ensure the well-being of students, teachers, and school staff.
Sindh
In Sindh, all public and private schools will observe summer break from June 1 to July 31. Provincial officials have dismissed recent rumors suggesting the early commencement of vacations due to heatwave concerns.
Climate Concerns
Climate experts continue to raise alarms about the effects of global warming, with Pakistan consistently ranked among the countries most vulnerable to climate change. Erratic weather patterns and an uptick in natural disasters have compelled government departments, including education and health, to adopt precautionary strategies to safeguard public health—especially among children during peak summer months.
