Benefits and Pensions Paid Early for Bank Holiday

by Bella

Recipients of State Pension and benefits across the UK are being advised to expect early payments next week due to the upcoming Spring bank holiday on Monday, May 26.

Government departments including Social Security Scotland and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have confirmed that payments scheduled for that date will be issued in advance, with most arriving on Friday, May 23. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is expected to follow the same pattern.

The adjustment is necessary because bank holidays typically result in the closure of government offices, phone lines, and online support services. As a result, benefit payments cannot be processed on the usual date.

The change will impact a wide range of benefits, including:

  • State Pension

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

  • Universal Credit

  • Adult Disability Payment (ADP)

  • Attendance Allowance

  • Other DWP and HMRC-issued benefits

Individuals whose scheduled payment dates do not fall on the May 26 bank holiday will continue to receive their benefits as normal.
