Authorities in Rajasthan have ordered the closure of schools in several border districts as a precautionary measure following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision affects both government and private educational institutions in Barmer, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, and Jaisalmer.
The move comes in the wake of India’s recent missile strikes targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). District administrations cited security concerns and potential risks to students as the reason behind the closures.
District-Wise Breakdown
Barmer:
District Collector Tina Dabi has announced an indefinite holiday for all schools, including CBSE-affiliated institutions, Anganwadis, and Madrasas, starting May 8. This includes classes up to Class 12. Exams scheduled for May 8 have been postponed until further notice.
Bikaner:
District Collector Namrata Vrishni ordered the suspension of classes in all government and private schools up to Class 12, encompassing CBSE schools, Anganwadis, and Madrasas. The directive is effective immediately and will remain in place until further instructions are issued.
Sri Ganganagar:
Dr. Manju, the District Collector, has mandated a school shutdown from May 7 onward. The order covers all schools, including CBSE institutions, Anganwadis, and Madrasas. Examinations have been postponed indefinitely.
Jaisalmer:
Pratap Singh, the District Collector, has implemented similar measures, declaring a holiday for all schools, including private, government, CBSE, Anganwadis, and Madrasas, starting May 8 until further notice. Exams have also been deferred.
Government Monitoring the Situation
Officials described the closures as a preventive step aimed at safeguarding students in light of the current security climate along the India-Pakistan border. The Indian Army is actively monitoring the situation, and local authorities are coordinating closely with defense and law enforcement agencies.
“The safety of children is our top priority. We are taking all necessary measures to ensure peace and stability,” said a senior state government official.
Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
