The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday in observance of this year’s Worker’s Day.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday, which was signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. The minister took the opportunity to commend Nigerian workers for their dedication and contributions, highlighting their significant role in the country’s growth, both domestically and internationally.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of peace as a driving force for industrialization and economic development, urging workers to adopt a culture of innovation and productivity in their respective fields. He also acknowledged the invaluable role of hard work in nation-building, stressing that there is dignity in labor.
“This administration is steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the security and safety of all citizens and foreign nationals in the country,” the statement read in part.
As part of his message, the Minister of Interior extended warm wishes to all workers, celebrating their vital contributions to the nation’s progress. He further urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, reaffirming that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is dedicated to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tunji-Ojo concluded by encouraging workers to continue raising the standards within their professions, noting that such efforts would improve governance and allow the nation’s resources to be fully maximized for the benefit of its people.
