Next UAE Public Holiday After Islamic New Year Set for September

by Bella

Following the confirmed public holiday for the Islamic New Year on Friday, June 27, the next official public holiday in the United Arab Emirates is expected to fall in early September to mark the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The Islamic New Year will provide a three-day weekend for private and public sector employees across the UAE. However, residents will have to wait approximately three months for the next long weekend.

According to the UAE’s official public holiday calendar, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), observed during the Islamic month of Rabi’ Al-Awwal, is the next public holiday. The date is anticipated to fall on Friday, September 5, 2025, which would once again result in a three-day weekend for most employees.

If the lunar calendar places the beginning of Rabi’ Al-Awwal on Monday, August 25, the Prophet’s birthday would coincide with Friday, September 5. Alternatively, if the month begins on Sunday, August 24, the holiday would likely be observed on Thursday, September 4—potentially offering a day off during the workweek.

Under the UAE’s public holiday policy, introduced at the beginning of 2025, the federal cabinet holds authority to shift Islamic holiday observances to align with weekends. This flexibility is intended to standardize holiday periods and maximize rest time for residents.

A similar adjustment was made for the Islamic New Year holiday, allowing residents to plan ahead for extended breaks.

As with all Islamic holidays in the UAE, the exact dates remain subject to moon sightings and official confirmation by the UAE government.
